On the shores of Lake Michigan you find Sheboygan, the “Malibu of the Midwest”. Sheboygan has a population around 49,000 and is the county seat for Sheboygan County.
The town gets it’s nickname “Malibu of the Midwest” from the surf crowd due in part to it’s location along the lakefront. When the wind blows just right, the waves get so big that you can actually surf them! The peak surf season runs from August through April. There’s also a ton of different activities for those who don’t want to get wet. The Broughton Marsh Park is a 30 acre campground with 64 sites that is surrounded by 14,000 incredible acres of Sheboygan nature. The golf enthusiast will recognize Whistling Straits as it has been host to three PGA championships so far, including they Ryder Cup in 2020.
Sheboygan has so much to offer anyone who visits, and a lot of it is actually free! Take a walk out to the iconic Sheboygan Lighthouse and enjoy the breeze off Lake Michigan while you’re out there. Nothing beats a cold lake’s breeze on a hot summer’s day. Those who enjoy seeing historical sites will want to take advantage of the Sheboygan Historical Markers Tour. This tour takes visitors around Sheboygan, checking out many different historical sites and telling stories along the way.
Sheboygan also has many different food and drink destinations for visitors to check out. From food trucks to cheese curds to some of the local favorites, there truly is something here for everyone. If food is your thing, feel free to read up on some of the best local spots here.
Whether you’re looking for a day long trip, an extended vacation, or even looking to move, Sheboygan is the place for you. Check out some of the local listings below and begin planning your trip today!
