Lake Tomahawk is a small, quaint Northwoods town of about 1,160 residents. It is near the conveniently named Tomahawk Lake, which is known as one of the clearest lakes in the state of Wisconsin.
The Town of Lake Tomahawk is known as the World’s Capital of Snowshoe Baseball. This wacky tradition started in 1961 when Chairman Ray Sloan decided that the summer months need an additional type of entertainment for tourists. They covered the field with saw chips, strapped on snowshoes, and thus Snowshoe Baseball was born. The season runs every summer from mid June to late August and provide a fun and entertaining experience for the whole family. Admission is free, but donations are always welcome. Concessions at the park include popcorn, brats, hamburgers, and sometimes over 60 varieties of pie!
The Lake Tomahawk area is home to a variety of different lakes from smaller, more remote lakes to the bigger lakes like Horsehead Lake and, of course, Tomahawk Lake. Each of these lakes offers pristine fishing on crystal clear lakes that can’t be matched anywhere else in the state. Around the area there are multiple different natural areas to pick from, including the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. The forest covers more than 232,000 acres and provides economic support to local communities through the production of forest products, tourism, and recreational activities.
Lake Tomahawk is the perfect getaway for someone looking for a good mix of fun events and endless recreation possibilities. If you’re looking for property in the area, check one of the local listings below and contact an agent today!
