Welcome to Fort-mccoy

About Fort-mccoy

Fort McCoy is a reservist US Army installation and is located on 60,000 acres between Tomah and Sparta, Monroe County, WI.  Since its creation in 1909, the post has been used primarily as a military training center.  Part of the base is also used by the Wisconsin State Patrol as a training facility.

During World War II, the then named Camp McCoy was used as a detention center for hundreds of German and Japanese prisoners of war.  Since that time the base has expanded to its present size and was renamed as a federal Fort.

Thousands of troops are trained and deployed from this location every year.  It is the only cold weather reservist training facility in the military.

The soldiers, their families and the thousands of civilian employees that support them live and work throughout Tomah, Sparta and the surrounding areas.
